The scientific research project titled “A Holistic View on Parental Burnout in Parents of Preschool-Aged Children: Determining Prevalence, Risk, and Protective Factors Specific to Turkey Using a Mixed-Methods Approach,” involving our Psychology Department faculty members Asst. Prof. Neslihan Balcı and Res. Asst. Emine Uysal as researchers, has been accepted for support in the first term of 2025 under the TÜBİTAK 1001 Scientific and Technological Research Projects Support Program.
Parents face numerous psychological and emotional challenges in the process of raising children. These challenges can lead to a phenomenon called “parental burnout,” which may negatively affect parents’ overall well-being, family relationships, and child development. While studies have often focused on parents of children with special needs, parental burnout is becoming increasingly common among all parents. A primary aim of this project is to gain an in-depth understanding of parental burnout in the Turkish context. Additionally, the project seeks to identify risk and protective factors associated with parental burnout, develop a Turkey-specific Parental Burnout Assessment Scale, and use this scale nationwide to determine prevalence, risk and protective factors, and parental profiles. The project will be conducted between 2025 and 2028.
