The workshops organized within the framework of the 3rd International Yalova Film Festival brought students together with leading experts from the worlds of cinema and art. Held as part of the festival program between September 30 and October 3, the workshops featured hands-on training across diverse fields including cinematography, editing, traditional tile art, poster design, and stage design.
Coordinated by Asst. Prof. Dr. Banu Ezber Sayar and Asst. Prof. Dr. Demet Yalçın from the Department of New Media and Communication at Yalova University’s Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, the workshops continued throughout the day with broad student participation. Hosted in different classrooms, academics and artists shared their knowledge and experience, offering students the opportunity to closely explore various facets of cinema and art through practical applications.
Featured Workshops
In the first part of the program starting at 11:00 AM, Director/Cinematographer İlker Özkap held a workshop titled “Cinematography and Visual Storytelling in Cinema” in classroom 105. The session examined the narrative power of visual imagery in filmmaking and the fundamental elements of cinematography.
Concurrently at the same hour in classroom 218, Lecturer Dr. Pervane Alizade conducted a “Watercolor” workshop, during which students engaged in hands-on studies on watercolor techniques.
Cinema, Editing, and Traditional Tile Art Explored
The second session of the festival program began at 1:00 PM. In classroom 218, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nursel Karaca conducted a workshop titled “Traditional Tile Art Applications,” where students engaged in hands-on practices regarding traditional ceramic tile art.
At the same hour in classroom 105, Prof. Dr. Serkan Öztürk organized a workshop titled “Cinema and Editing,” sharing valuable knowledge and insights regarding film editing—one of the most critical stages in the film production process.
Program Concluded with Poster and Stage Design
The final round of workshops was held at 3:00 PM. In classroom 218, Asst. Prof. Dr. Emel Koru Yakupoğlu and Res. Asst. Dilek Atalar conducted a workshop titled “Film/Poster Design Using Collage Technique,” focusing on practical approaches to utilizing collage methods in film and poster design.
Simultaneously in classroom 105, Asst. Prof. Dr. Hatice Şule Özer and Res. Asst. Esra Tavşan led a workshop titled “Cinematographic Interior: Searching for 2D to 3D Representation – Pop-up Stage Design,” exploring the translation of cinematographic interior spaces from two dimensions to three dimensions alongside pop-up stage design.
The events organized throughout the day provided students with the opportunity to carry out practical work across various artistic and cinematic fields and to benefit from the expertise of established professionals. The workshop program of the 3rd International Yalova Film Festival was successfully concluded following the final sessions.
